Silver · Foundations
Silver is not simply cheap gold.
Silver combines investment demand with extensive industrial use. That gives it a different market structure, different practical considerations and often sharper price swings.
Silver’s industrial story cuts both ways. Growing industrial demand can support consumption, while economic slowdowns can weaken parts of that demand. Investment flows, currencies, rates and sentiment can also move the price.
| Consideration | Gold | Silver |
|---|---|---|
| Value density | High value in a small space | More physical volume for the same value |
| Demand profile | Investment, jewellery, reserves, technology | Industrial + investment + jewellery/other uses |
| Price behaviour | Can be volatile | Often experiences larger percentage swings |
| Retail costs | Premiums/spreads vary | Premiums/spreads and product taxes can materially affect cost |
